Mars, God of War

After several days trying to figure out what the gambit is now that the Leader of the Free World is talking about revitalizing the space program with plans for a manned mission to Mars, it became clear in conversations last night that the likely project is to do away with all purely science-driven aspects of the program (as has just happened with Hubble), in favor of the military domination of space. After all, Mars is the god of War.

Following that conversation, by about two hours, the following was posted on Slashdot, suggesting I am not alone in my paranoia. Follow the links and you'll see what I mean.
